It’s Just Personal It’s Nothing Business

Ok, so I know this blog post title is kinda back to front.
The normal saying would be “it’s just business it’s nothing personal”.
Well as part my coaching with Alex Jeffreys, I had to create 3 plans.
Business
Entrepreneur
Personal
Now Alex said in the call that your Personal Plan should be much bigger than the other two and thank god for that!
My personal plan is now MASSIVE.

My daughter Jade even got in on the act and decided she wanted her own plan.
She wants 5 holidays this year:
Disneyland Paris
Alton Towers
Blackpool
Gran Canaria
Louden Castle.
How I am supposed to get all the time off to go on those 5 holidays I don’t know, so she settled on some of the holidays being taken next year.
She also wants to buy every toy in the Disney Store.
Hmmm, not so sure I will ever be able to afford that one!
Jade is super excited about her list and has told everyone who will listen to her all about it.
But Jade’s list taught me a lesson.
Her personal plan is based all around FUN.
So my personal plan was thrown in the bin and I started again.
Now I have a fun personal plan with nothing business related at all.
MY top priority is to learn Snow Boarding, I have always thought it looks a really fun activity.
So I have taken steps and found out there is an Xscape Leisure Centre not far from me in Glasgow and you can hire an instructor to show you the basics.
You can expect to see some photos of me falling flat on my a$$ as I try to master the art of snow boarding.
Another personal goal is to get a driveway built for my Mum and Dad’s house.
My Dad is always moaning at my Mum that he can’t get parked right outside the house, why it bothers him I don’t know, but he really stresses about it, then he stresses at my Mum and it stresses her out.
If I can get them a driveway built then he will be happier and so will my Mum.
I never really realized how much my Mum and Dad really did for me as I was growing up, I wasn’t until I had my daughter that I realized being a parent is a tough job.
So I want to repay my parents in someway, I know a driveway is not some big fancy mansion, god knows I would love to buy them a big fancy mansion, but right now, my funds simply don’t permit that but getting them a driveway built is achievable and I know it will make a difference in their lives.
Trust me, there will be a future blog post showing the driveway I get built for them.
A lot of my motivation for success online is based around my family, escpecially Jade, she is the most important thing in my life and comes before anything.
Money can help me achieve so much more in my life.
Now, I know having a ton of money doesn’t guarantee me happiness, but it sure would help.
Most of us probably need some extra cash in our pockets, that’s why we are trying to run a successful online business.
Whether we like it or not our actions are driven by our desire to make more money.
I am not saying we are chasing money, I am just saying we want to make money.
You are not in this business for the fun of it, because if that was the case you would give every single one of your products away for free and never promote an affiliate link in your life.
I am not afraid to admit I want to make money online.
But it is not my only reason for working online, I am also in it to help other people make money too.
People get suspicious when you tell them there are certain tools you will need to make money online.
They think you are simply trying to trick them so you can get commissions.
For example I use Aweber.
If I didn’t have to pay the yearly fee do you think I would?
Of course I wouldn’t.
I don’t have money to waste.
You need to build a mailing list of customers to make more sales.
It’s much easier selling to someone who has already bought from you.
I know there are people out there who say you don’t need a mailing list, you don’t need a website etc etc.
Utter Crap!
I am telling you, you do need those things to run a successful online business.
If there is something you need for your business, something that can help you in your business I am going to tell you about.
If there is something I use personally, I am using it for a reason not just for the fun of it and you should be using it too.
I no longer send out promotional emails recommending x,y and z just for the sake a commission.
I am ashamed to say when I first started online I did send out promotional email after promotion email.
But thanks to Alex I now have a new mindset.
I am no longer commission orientated.
Probably for the first time in my life I am 100% happy with the way I am marketing.
Don’t get me wrong, I still want money, of course I do.
But I don’t want to make money selling the dream chaser products that I used to promote many years ago.
Now my ideal goal is too work hard, figure out the real solution to this money making puzzle and share it with others.
It’s a simple goal and one I intend to achieve, it’s right at the top of my Business plan:
“MAKE MONEY AND SHOW OTHERS HOW TO DO THE SAME”
Anyone who knows me, or who has dealt with me online, knows if I can help I will always do so freely, if not I will point you in the direction of someone who does know.
If the only solution to your problem is a product or service you have to pay for, I will tell you that you need that product.
If there is a free option, I will tell you about it.
Helping people takes up a lot of my time, I would love to help more people personally if I could but it’s simply not possible due to time restrictions.
That’s why this blog will be the main outlet for my help, then when I get help requests, I can simply point them to my blog and this will enable me to help so many more people and still focus on growing my own business.
This is MY blog, I will post on it what I want.
I have several posts on this blog right now with a massive amount of comments.
Comments from my subscribers and friends.
But a lot of comments came from my blog hopping antics.
From all the comments my blog has received over the past weeks, I value the comments from my friends and subscribers more.
Of course blog hopping has introduced me to a whole new set of friends, and I am very grateful for that.
I have been lucky enough to meet some really nice people from blog hopping.
People whom I hope to build relationships with and work with in the future.
I am not being arrogant when I say this is my blog and I will do what I want.
I just mean I am not prepared to blog hop for the rest of my life just to get comments.
If my blog posts get no comments so be it.
It’s not the end of the world.
No Secret Formula
I am not writing blog posts following some secret formula that is designed to take your money from you.
I am trying to make money online myself and show you how to do it.
It’s my personal blog where I can share tactics and methods to help you.
In the beginning of my online journey I got a lot of help, I remember those who helped me and fully intend to pay them back for helping me.
There is a little mental checklist of those people stored in my head, filed under “people I will bend over backwards for in the future£.
I am getting help now from Alex, he will be getting a whole lot of pay back after all he has taught me so far, a lot of love going this guy’s way.
I needed help, I admitted I needed help, I sought help and now I am getting help.
Let’s face it, we all need help.
There is no shame in admitting you need help.
No one started out knowing everything, they learned along the way.
They got help along the way.
Everyone is the same, it’s just some people are at different stages.
You need to find someone who is at the stage you want to be and learn from them.
Follow everything they do, read everything they write, apply everything they teach.
The genuine people online don’t write ebooks or create products solely for commissions or to make money from you.
I promise you, the genuine marketers are trying to help you.
I know it’s hard finding genuine marketers who you can trust, but go by your gut instincts, they are usually right.
Look out for the people who are swamping your inbox with great content and advice, bending over backwards to help you.
These are the people you want to follow and mirror yourself upon.
Follow the genuine marketers and your quest for online success will become a whole lot easier.
Take care, Sally

Hi Sally!
I love your blog! You are so honest and that makes your blog really fresh and inspiring!
I think a driveway is an awesome present for your parents. Just think how much easier their life will be with that situation handled. Very cool.
Girl, I sent out all those emails, too, that’s why I wrote that post about being me! That’s not me and I see that people do it all the time. I thought that was the way to do things and it’s not.
Glad we are on the same page here.
Very cool.
Hope all is well with you and I will see you on the forum! y’all are great!
Take care,
Lisa~
P.S. I wanna have fun too! My kids have fun all the time while I don’t! Blah! I need to take their advice!

Hey Sally
What a great post!
I love how honest and direct you are and that you don’t follow the herd like so many others do(lol).
I can see from your personal goals that you’ve set that you are someone that puts others before yourself and I no without a doubt that you will acheive your goals and I can’t wait to see the pictures of the new driveway so don’t forget to post them.
Everyone should have something to aim for and theres no better reason than wanting a better life for your kids and family.

Thanks for your post and sharing with us so personally. I know you sharing this helps so many of us too.
You’re so right that we should be open and honest about needing help! So many marketers feel the need to be an authority site when they’re not. That’s when visitors get confused and put off by marketers trying to blag it.
Your enthusiasm is contagious. Keep up the good work Sally!

Hi Sally,
Wow, your personal plan is a BIG one. Thank you to your daughter, she knows how to have fun.
I think I should redo my own plan. We, the adults, limit ourselves thinking that something is too unpractical to be done. Now, I got big inspiration from you and your daughter. It’s about thinking big, and don’t let my own sometimes (too often) boring adult logic to limit myself.
I want to have lots of fun this year, starting with vacations in Barcelona, I love that city. I want to improve my English language skills with a 6-week course in London or New York(?).
I will meet Alex J and Gary Simpson this year … and lastly but not least I’ll travel with my daughter (she is 18) to New York. That sounds a lot better than my previous plan hahaha
Have the best time of your life

Hey Sally
You have hit on something that I think is really important. For me my personal goals are the most important because they are the ones that drive me. I am with your daughter Jade. Dream Big. Make your personal goals so exciting that you are prepared to everything posable to get there.
For me work is really a means to an end. Its not about the money. Its the things that the money lets you do.
As far as helping people go, what goes around comes around. The more you give the more you get. There is no better way of honing your own skills than teaching other people. It makes you identify the key things that you do that make your business successful.
The thing I like to try to help people with is mind set. You can lear all the moves but without a dream, something that just puts a smile on your face every time you think of it you will more often than not loose your way.
Make your life the best it can be!
Cheers

Your honesty and good intention shines through overwhelmingly, which has inspired me. I think its something I need to cover, as I’ve not yet outlined my intentions on my blog.
Thank you Sally, you’re an inspiration. Good luck with the snowboarding too, my wife and I had a days instruction at the snow dome in Birmingham last year, and it was AWESOME. Its easier than you think too!

Love your transparency, Sally. My family is a big source of motivation for me too. In my case it’s not so much the money (although I’m not one to turn that down!) but being able to do work that allows me to be there for them. The online writing I do allows me this, but I’d like eventually to only write for my own blog/products. Aweber rocks. The level of training they have is amazing!

It is amazing how our kids can make us think about things in a different and sometimes innocent light. I mean come on, fun, why as adults should we have fun too? I say because our kids are having fun we should join them. Having our kids growing up at home is such a short amount of time and we should enjoy it with them.
Making money online and working from home to spend more time with my family is my biggest goal. My kids are almost out of school and all I can think about is that I will be at work away from my family while they are having fun.
I am going to have to scrap my personal plan and start over. Thanks!
Anyway, I really appreciate your honesty. You are definitely someone I hope to do business with in the future in some fashion or another.
Take care!

Hi Sally,
Cool blog post. I like that you said it takes approximately 6.36 minutes to read. I’m a fast reader, but it took me about 15 minutes because I read it twice and was talking back to the screen as I read.
Yes, been there – done that! Personally I agree, it’s tough starting an online business with a goal of making money online. Every where I turn – people want my money! And, we just don’t have it yet.
I go back and forth each day on what should I spend to enhance my online company. I know this sounds selfish, (and I haven’t done it yet) but someday I’d like to write myself a paycheck! Without bankrupting my company.
I feel confident I can learn from you and your website. I look forward to more!

It’s helping others to achieve their goals, it’s inspiration!
So if we carry on marketing the way we have now begun
Online success and enough money is bound to come!
And with it holidays and lots of time playing in the sun

Thanks for such an open and straight up post, makes it so much easier to relate. I think the reason we all start the same is because that was the way we we’re introduced into the whole game in the first place. Like yourself, I quickly learned that that was not the way I wanted to go and duly taught myself how to build sites and SEO the crap out of them. LOL!

Hey Sally,
Very good post and good to see your evolution. I believe when it comes to making money online (and in marketing) there seems to be many transitions:
Clueless -> Desperate -> Hypey -> Competent -> Authentic
Your attitude to blog commenters being your friends is completely right. After all… how often do you have to hard sell them on your ideas? That’s the power of trust.
Keep up the good work.

Hi, just wanted to say that I highly recommend snowboarding and it’s great that you have set it as one of your goals. It’s hard at first and you will get really beat up from all the falling down the first few times you go. But once you get the hang of it, it’s very rewarding and in my opinion more fun than skiing. Good luck! -Max
